Our super sweet, luscious berries have made Stillpoint Farm a popular place for u-pickers, young and old. Come and spend some quality time out in our fields. Bring friends and family, stay as long as you like. Youngsters especially enjoy coming out and picking their own (which is easy to see on their berry-splashed smiling faces!)
We have a new song that we sing when it's time to find the open rows for picking: "Twinkle twinkle little star, pick the berries where the sparkly flags are."
U-picking starts with strawberries in late May. Blueberries and raspberries come on in July. August and September are wonderful months to pick all three types of berries!
When you visit to u-pick, it's helpful if you bring your own containers. We will weigh them before you pick. That way, you'll only pay for berries, not your bowls. No worries if you don't have a container, though. We are happy to provide them for you.
To pick the perfect strawberry, and to increase it's storage time...
Two hand method:
- Hold the strawberry in one hand with the stem between your thumb and first finger. Use your other hand to grasp the stem and pinch it off, leaving a little bit of stem with the berry attached.
One hand method:
- Hold the berry in the palm of your hand. Move the berry until the cap of the berry is close to your fingertips. Then, with a snapping action (like a reversed finger snap movement) flick your fingers. The stem should break off about half an inch from the top of the berry.
**The key to picking strawberries is to make sure that there is a little bit of stem attached to the top of the berry. If there is a hole, then air can get into the center of the berry and it will spoil alot faster.
